Melissa started drawing very young and was taught by her artist sister Wendy. However she gave it up in favour of more 'useful' subjects at GCSE level and pursued a career in journalism, then the fitness industry.
When her mother died unexpectedly on Easter Sunday (2009), Melissa looked for a way of dealing with the loss. So she picked up the pencils and paintbrushes once more. Her mum had always encouraged her creativity, so drawing to made her feel closer to her mother.
Melissa lives with her husband Phil, two young daughters and a Labrador called George, on the Kent coast, South East England.
